black bear pass roll over

Viewer discretion.  This shows how violent a Jeep rollover on Black Bear Pass can be.

The road is not that technical although it is quite narrow for long sections and will forgive zero errors.

Black Bear Pass can be more deadly than any trail in the San Juans if you don't have full concentration on your driving when moving and a more than competent driver at the wheel.  If you don't KNOW where all four tires are tracking every second, try some lesser dangerous trails first.

You might want to read the "High Mountain Driving" series on this blog before making a trip to the high country.  I can pretty much guarantee you will learn things that you have never heard before about mountain driving.

If you've ever wondered why the county road crews close the Black Bear Pass road while they do maintenance, take a look a this and ask, "Would I want to be below that when it finally rolled down the mountainside?"
